Church History and Who We Are

 

Irvine First Baptist Church was constituted in the spring of 1900 with ten members, who met for worship in the Court House and various school buildings. ln 1914 a wooden structure consisting of a main sanctuary and three Sunday School rooms was built on the present site, a hillside overlooking the Kentucky River Valley.

 

Thirteen years later, a larger church was built to accommodate the growing congregation. It was built in a Grecian motif with the front being pillared by four large columns and in the interior having large oak urns the main auditorium along with intricate wood-workings. The beautiful stained glass windows which ordain the sanctuary contain several biblical references in pictorial form.

 

We are blessed to have a Pilcher pipe organ and a baby grand piano which we have blessed with talented musicians to play through the years. 

 

We have a radio ministry through WIRV 1550(AM) were we have been reaching out to the shut-ins of our community since the radio station began broadcasting. 

 

First Baptist has been a cornerstone in the community by passing on the Christian heritage to the many who have entered to worship and departed to serve. Approximately ten male members have been ordained to preach the gospel.

 

Today, First Baptist is a church with deep roots and an appreciation of its past. It is also actively involved in the needs of the present with focus on the future. The strides of today will make a difference for tomorrow; through prayer, Bible study, worship, praise, outreach, missions, and fellowship.
